The Garnet Valley High School Art department hosted its first Art-A-Thon on Saturday, Dec. 17. Forty-two high school students celebrated creativity and self-expression for 12 hours while experimenting with a variety of media. Eight eighth-graders from the middle school also joined in for part of the day.

High school art faculty Diana Stevenson, Robin Brewer, Claudia Eckel and Stefanie Owens facilitated sessions on mixed media, mural, painting, jewelry-making, photography, stop-motion animation, printmaking and silk-screened t-shirts. Guest artist, Lisbeth Bucci and National Art Honor Society members also led various art-making sessions.

At the end of the evening, works were gathered to display in the high school Art gallery. Proceeds benefit the National Art Honor Society Scholarship Fund. The GVHS Art department hopes to continue this event annually.
