College Sports: Arcadia’s a hit as Villanova edges La Salle

PLYMOUTH — Joe Cotter established a program-first for Villanova Tuesday, but his teammate Ryan Arcadia earned most of the postgame praise.Cotter slugged two home runs at Villanova Ballpark, a first in the team’s 117 games played there, and Arcadia singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to stake the Wildcats past La Salle, 10-9.The Wildcats (9-15), playing their first home game in more than two weeks, erased a four-run deficit to complete their comeback.Monsignor Bonner product Brian Meagher recorded a hit and a run for the Explorers, who fell to 4-23.In other baseball action:

Lehigh 17, Temple 15

AMBLER — Temple surrendered a five-run first-inning lead in falling to Lehigh in the semifinal round of the Liberty Bell Classic.The host Owls and visiting Mountain Hawks combined for 32 runs and 32 hits in the slugfest, which put Lehigh in the championship game of the tournament.Cardinal O’Hara alum Sean Barksdale scored a team-best three runs for the Owls (13-10).

Franklin & Marshall 10, Haverford 7

HAVERFORD — Charlie Carluccio did all he could to keep the host Fords in position to win.Carluccio batted 3-for-4 and started two separate rallies, but it wasn’t enough to hold off visiting Franklin & Marshall.Steve Andelman and Bobby Bailey chipped in with eighth-inning RBI singles for the Fords, who dropped to 13-6-1 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference play.

Men’s Lacrosse

Widener 12, DeSales 3

CENTER VALLEY — Andrew Janusz and Clint Quedenfeld had no problems finding the back of the net for Widener, which took down host DeSales Tuesday in a rout.Janusz scored four goals and assisted on another, and Quedenfeld netted another four for the Pride. Brian Stromko tacked on another two goals.The Pride played just as strong defensively, keeping DeSales at bay throughout. Goalie Tim Collins made four saves in the win.

Cabrini 23, Shenandoah 8

RADNOR — Thirteen Cavaliers scored as Cabrini handed visiting Shenandoah its first loss of the season. The seventh-ranked Cavaliers pulled ahead by 14-4 at halftime, and never led by fewer than 10 goals from that point on. They recorded 73 shots, including 37 on goal.Matt McKinney (Ridley), Scott Reimer and Steve Kapp each scored three times for the Cavaliers, who improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play.

Women’s Lacrosse

Cabrini 18, Cedar Crest 6

ALLENTOWN — Jamie O’Hanlon (Springfield) and Danielle Rothermel registered hat tricks for the visiting Cavaliers, who came away with an easy win over host Cedar Crest.Dolores Weathers, Lauren Iannece and Katelyn Penrose (Springfield) each netted two goals for Cabrini, which bettered its overall mark to 5-1.

Men’s Tennis

Neumann 9, Ursinus 0

COLLEGEVILLE — The visiting Knights shut out Ursinus in pulling off a sweep on the road.Neumann’s Christopher Brown swept Jason Zerbe in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in No. 1 singles. Four other singles players swept their matches, including No. 4 Dan Harnos, who lost just five games in his win.
